Google Launches New Feature, Revolutionizing Education & Employment

The pandemic has caused a seismic shift to the job market. There is an increasing demand for digital literacy skills and jobs as new career opportunities emerge in this field.

With this shift, we have noticed the emergence of online learning platforms offering a range of courses on a membership basis. On these platforms, you are able to learn everything from productivity skills, expound or explore different hobbies and learn new skills that would make you attractive in the changing job market.

Building on trends from platforms such as Skillshare, Coursera, and MasterClass which provide engaging learning experiences at a fraction cost of a university degree; Google introduced the Google Career Certificate.

The Career certificate is a collection of courses intended to help candidates navigate the new career market and strategically position themselves for high-growth job opportunities.

Available on the learning platform – Coursera – the Google certificate is to be the equivalent of a four-year degree in six months or less in the relevant topic of choice.

Designed to bridge the gap between employment opportunities and access to employable skills based on emerging trends, the courses provide the relevant skills to delve into a new career path. At this time, Google plans to focus on courses in IT support, data analysis, user experience (UX) design, and project management which Google predicts will be in demand in the coming years.

While the program will not completely replace the need for a college degree, it provides the opportunity for candidates to learn new skills before pursuing higher education. Especially as the acceptance of the certificates as qualifications is yet to be discussed and widely accepted by employers. To mitigate this and assist successful candidates, Google intends to provide apprenticeship and job training opportunities for successful candidates with 130 US-based employers.

Coupled with the dawn of remote work, Google is offering an exciting and unique opportunity that transcends geographical locations and increases access to talented employees worldwide.
