On Purpose with Kate Nderu: Building A Better Workforce

On Purpose” is Ikigai Nairobi’s member spotlight series where we learn about finding one’s reason for being. For this edition, we share more about the members participating in our member-led event series – Lunch & Learn. First up for 2025 is Kate Nderu!

Meet Kate Nderu

Kate Nderu, Knightwise Human Capital

Kate Nderu is the Founder and Director of Knightwise Human Capital. Knightwise Human Capital is a bespoke consulting firm that combines Human Resources, Psychology, and research insights to develop unique tools, techniques, and data-driven solutions to support teams in today’s workplace context.

She has over 16 years of experience in human resource policy development and review, organizational design and recruitment, and change management.

How did she get here? Ahead of our upcoming event – Lunch & Learn on Wednesday, 26th February – we sat down with Ikigai member Kate Nderu to learn more about her career journey and how she finds balance.

Where it began

Kate didn’t always envision herself in the Human Resources (HR) sector. From early on, Kate had a passion for business. She credits her love for connecting with people to her high school career counselor. She combined her passion for business and her love for interacting with people to support teams and organizations through Knightwise Human Capital– a bespoke consulting firm that specializes in the application of psychology in the workplace.

Kate’s Motivation

I’d say passion. Passion makes the decision to keep going easy.

Before founding Knightwise Human Capital, Kate worked at reputable organizations coordinating their HR departments as a consultant or in-house manager. She credits her passion for people, culture, and employee wellness as her motivation to found Knightwise Human Capital in 2021 and keep going.

What’s next?

In a nutshell, scaling Knightwise Human Capital. Through Knightwise Human Capital, Kate, and her team have supported organizations in the renewable energy, hospitality, finance, FMGC, recruitment, and conservation industries to name a few. As a true visionary, Kate would like to grow her clientele beyond Kenyan borders. Scaling internal operations in customer acquisition, revenue, staff service, and number of full-time staff departments.

What do you like about your experience as an Ikigai member?

“The curation of the Spaces makes it really easy to get a lot done in a short span of time. Additionally, the networking opportunities through my membership have been invaluable for Knightwise.”

How do you unwind and find balance?

My sleep is important. I take naps when working from home to recharge and boost my productivity. Additionally, I schedule quality time with my family and girlfriends every month. I’m working on taking quarterly vacations, but the one once a year works fine for now.
